Houston is coached by former Texas/GW coach, part-time analyst, one-time UConn assistant Tom Penders, who has them climbing up. With Calipari now out of ConfUSA, every other rising program (UTEP, Houston, and UCF) has a chance at making a splash in the conference. Which adds to your point as they are rising together.

Choosing a hockey game over hoops may seem like they do not have much faith in the basketball program, but on the contrary.

You keep telling yourself that, Rev-Ray. The school I follow is doing a whole kickoff even tomorrow called StormFest. Because St. John’s CARES about basketball. Not enough to do the (often unsavory) things they need to do to win, but they care.
