Here we go again.  Time to run-down of a few of the weekend’s football games and explain how they are the same and different from basketball.

Louisville v. West Virginia, 12 PM

Same: Formerly scorching and exciting offense that no longer clicks after the head coach left for Michigan — check.
Different: West Virginia fans don’t express an urgent desire to shove Beilein down an open mine shaft.

Navy v. Notre Dame, 2:30 PM

Same: An Irish PR machine is hyping their top player — QB Jimmy Clausen — who gets Heisman buzz from people who believe the Heisman trophy shouldn’t be limited to national title contenders or players with elite talent.
Different: Harangody actually deserves publicity.

Duke v. North Carolina, 3:30 PM

Same: Several games into the schedule Duke has only one conference loss. Against all odds, Duke is actually still a factor in the ACC Coastal Division race with one conference loss, meaning a good showing in this game could set up an epic showdown with Georgia Tech next week.
Different: Duke is likable in football.

Memphis v. Tennessee, 7:00 PM

Different: The Vols basketball coaches are all about tradition and take wearing Tennessee orange seriouslyFrighteningly seriously.
Their football coach, on the other hand, has decided 118 years of tradition from General Neyland to Peyton Manning should be cashed in for a cheap Halloween-related recruiting stunt.
Same: Tennessee has a coach that the school loves but everyone else considers a jackass.
